Yes print scale matters more than the print itself. Look for medium-scale florals (not tiny ditsy prints, not enormous tropical patterns) on a darker base colour. The print should be busy enough to camouflage what you want hidden but not so loud that it overwhelms your frame. Vertical floral arrangements (florals running up the dress) can be especially elongating.

For wedding guests, midi-length floral dresses in colours that don’t compete with the bride work best. Avoid white-base florals (too close to bride colours) and very bold florals (can overshadow the bride). Soft watercolour florals on dusty colours, navy florals and burgundy florals are popular wedding guest choices. Dress with floral can refer to any floral-patterned dress maxi, midi or mini length, in any silhouette. The term is broader than ‘floral dress’ and can include dresses where flowers are an accent rather than the dominant pattern. Medium-scale florals on darker bases photograph very well they’re visually interesting without being distracting. Avoid very small ditsy prints (they look like noise in photos), very saturated tropical prints (can clash with backgrounds) and busy multi-colour florals (compete with backgrounds). Soft watercolour florals on dusty bases consistently photograph the best.
